Orientation
Scholars participate in a one-week long mandatory orientation in Washington, D.C in July. The orientation facilitates the transition from school to work, focuses students on the responsibility of public service and Federal Government regulations, enhances their leadership skills, and fosters a sense of camaraderie. Round-trip transportation is arranged and provided by the agency to scholars for orientation and to their internship location.

Student Commitment
Scholars commit to serve as a public servant and effective leader and to completing their academic program. They also agree to complete a minimum of 640 hours in their internship prior to graduating from their program. After graduation, student commits to providing one year of service to USDA for each year of financial support received.
