The United States Department of Agriculture uses the definition established by the U.S. Department of Education which defines a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) as a non-profit institution that has at least 25% Hispanic full-time equivalent enrollment. There are more than 250 HSIs in the U.S which serve over one million Hispanic students.
